A Little Here, A Little There
This was my breakfast room, that we never used. A while back I decide to use it more for reading, blogging, hanging out. Whatever we felt like. So it has looked like this since the change was made. Don't worry we have three other tables for dinning, so eating together is not a problem. The other day, I decided I didn't have the time to totally redo the room, but a few quick changes could be made and lighten the look. I'd like to paint the walls, but the messsssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!
Here's a different view. No changes made yet. I love that table and the bamboo look, I found it at Leftovers. The slip covered chairs were from a local museums garage sale, I had the slipcovers made, but the chairs were a great fine. The first two pictures I was not working the camera very well. Sorry.
View from the other side of the room, a little zebra. My daughter loves zebra and I try to incorporate what my family likes and enjoys in our decor (it's their home too). Plus it helps to reflect our families personality and personal style, it gives our home the qualities that make it US and not someone else or like everyone else. I am a firm believer that your home should be a reflection of who you are, your family, your interest, life, personalities, and function around you and your children. Anyone can look in a magazine and reproduce that image, but find a stylist that will help you reflect what you like in your home and what is YOU for your home. A stylist that will take into account your family and all they are and do and turn those things into beautiful, interesting and unique parts of the decor.
We read a lot, I collect silver serving pieces (and use those in decorating), the zebra pillow and ottoman are an element my daughter loves. The old wood standing butchers block was a find at Round Top one season (my husband and his family own a meat business). In another room in our home we have an interesting collection of Snow Globes (Little Einstein loves them) that was not an easy collection to add into the family room but that is exactly where he wanted them. So why not, he loves them, this is his home too. I had to be extremely creative working those into the room. Extremely, but we "made it work." and he loves look at them and he will always remember them and that they were a part of his home and not just his room.
Last picture, again I love that table. The books were a nice change to this room. I think every room in our house has books in it. I know it does. Look at that Ralph Lauren book, I swear that book has been around forever and everyone I know has it. Who doesn't love that Ralph Lauren book.
Overall, I only cleared off the before table ( it had a tray and misc things) and added the books a and a few silver pieces. I cleared off my bar and added and silver trays. Removed any clutter from the other table and butchers block. I guess it was more off a de-fracking day then anything. Changed up the mix.
That was peek into my world. I'd love to hear what collections you have or have had to work around in your home. I can't imagine anything being harder to manage than snow globes. Lets hear, share your collections.
Enjoy your day,
Love and Limes,
Tikaa
I love my RL book, too. I have a collection of Limoges boxes. But they are easy compared to snow globes!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your beautiful room. You definitely need to pursue a career in decorating.
