In high school my parents and brother would go shoot sporting clays and hunt and I stayed behind. I use to equate hunting with camping (and I've mentioned before I quit Girl Scouts when I realized they LIKE to camp). Then while in high school, my parents took me shooting and then I had some lessons next thing you know I'm hooked and that was that.  I live in Texas, wear boots (some days), own horses, shoot guns, and married to a Judge, that all sounds very redneck. I swear we have indoor plumbing.
With all that being said,  I want a new shotgun pretty bad, and this Browning is not ugly and I bet it shoots really nice. The Browning Citori 625 Sporting Golden Clay 12 gauge, over and under shotgun has ventilated top and side rib with ported barrels, 2 3/4 chamber, single selective trigger and hammer ejectors all encased in a beautiful silver and nitride finish with gold engraving. Talk about SWOON! I currently shoot a Browning Citori 12 gauge, over and under but guns are like shoes, you can never have to many.
I prefer to shoot targets (sporting clays, skeet and trap) at  a range that is not far from my home, but owning this thrower by Atlas (AT250 Electronic Trap Thrower, $1559.99) would be BIG fun. Some days I can shoot up to three hundred rounds, this would make that a breeze. It's fully automatic, professional grade and has adjustable throwing distances from 30 to 90 yards. SOLD!

Who doesn't love Orvis? I have this Montana Gear Bag by Orvis (mine is Hunter Green), and I keep my shells, shooting glasses and ear protection in it, as well as lip gloss and extra pony tail holders. I am a girl, so yes I have girlie things in my gear bag. Having a gear bag makes heading to the shooting range quick, everything is one spot and easy to get to.
This Leather Shell Bucket ($129) is also from Orvis and no I do not reload my own shells, are YOU kidding! I can shoot, but the idea of loading my own shells sounds dangerous. I know lots of people do, but I can barely pay attention long enough to shoot skeet. Irregardless, this leather shell bag is uber nice and I likie it! I'd pick my empties up if I had this bag to put them in.
I know this all may sound strange, but I do love shooting. For me it's very relaxing, I don't have to think, and I can completely zone out (strange considering I have a shotgun in my hand). After this past week I just had getting ready for a school Bake Sale, animal cell projects and all the other things we mother do I think this week I'll be heading to the shooting range.
In addition to busy schedules, bakes sales and everyday mommy duties, we also had a much harder more difficult experience this past week.About three weeks ago my daughters first horse died, she had "Candy" for about thirteen years. It was sad, but she handled it okay. She knew Candy was old and had lived a long full life. The same week Candy died, we already had plans to pick up a new baby horse to add to the gang. The Judge and our sweet daughter drove 14 plus hours (one way) to get her new baby "Eden" a ten month old filly, double registered, with unbelievable conformation and presence, she was beautiful! My daughter was instantly in LOVE with Eden (named after the little girl on Toddlers and Tiara's who won a lot). She was spending everyday with her, hours and hours.
Then Eden hurt her leg and The Judge took her to the Vet, to our shock and horror Eden had broke her leg. There was no fixing it and trust me, I drilled everyone on any possibility. This past Friday,  October 12 I picked up my daughter early from school to say her goodbyes to Eden. That was the hardest thing, and the amount of tears was unbearable.  Writing this makes me cry, my heart hurts for my daughter, her horses mean the world to her. In thirteen years and over twenty horses (currently we have 8 horses) we have NEVER had to put a horse down, I can not describe how sad it was (is).
With all the tears, busy schedules and everyday life experiences I would say I definitely need to go shoot some skeet and zone out a while.

  1. Oh how I feel your pain of every day momma life! haha Warning as they get older it can get worse! I thought by now my 17 and almost 20 year old would not need me as much! Wrong!

  2. This is so bizarre that you wrote about shooting. Saturday after the Famous Bake Sale, Michael and his brother shot skeet with the kids. I'm sure you are not surprised that Miss A. loves it. On another note, I know how difficult this past Friday was for you and your daughter. But I just know there are great things in store for her and her next horse!

  3. Myko, For me I don't think it gets worse, only different, every age brings challenges and new difficulties as well as new joys and precious memories.

    You should it's fun!

Anne, I am not surprised about Miss A, I want to shoot with her. And I agree about Eden and the horses,Miss R is doing better and already on the hunt for another horse, but I do know she is still shedding tears for Eden.

    Thanks ALL,
